Let’s talk about the Fool in Tarot

Good morning, and welcome to another tarot Tuesday article.

For the major arcana, I’ve decided to mix things up and randomly choose a day each week for each card I talk about. We’ll have a little exploration into the significance of the day for that particular card before looking more into its general relevance in various types of reading.

As you can see, we’re on Tuesday, but today it was by fate rather than design.

Mars-ruled Tuesday emphasizes energy, initiative and assertiveness. If you were undecided, drawing the fool on this day strongly indicates that yes, now is the right time to take on new opportunities or be daring. This card invites change and discovery in line with the dynamic energetic nature of Tuesdays. Make some bold moves today, armed with self-confidence and open-mindedness.

  • Freedom
  • Innocence
  • New beginnings
  • Spontaneity
  • Folly
  • Hesitation
  • Impulsiveness
  • Naivety
  • Recklessness

The Fool: Upright

In an upright position, the fool is a symbol of new beginnings, enthusiasm and having no plan. This card in general stands for a fresh start or the beginning of a journey where anything is possible.

Take each day easily with nothing weighing down your spirits. Optimism and eagerness to step outside your comfort zone are the keynotes of this card, which often urges one to have faith in life’s unfolding path.

This card also signifies the innocence and absence of preconceptions. Its message is a call for playfulness and experimentation, on starting afresh, letting go of fear, and finding joy in randomness. Essentially this card urges you to approach with an open mind to be curious about everything.

The Fool: Reversed

If the fool appears reversed, it can be a warning against impulsiveness or recklessness.

Often, the fool in this position represents someone who doesn’t think twice before acting. An individual habitually putting themselves at risk of falling into danger during their journey through life. A fool reversed may indicate an immense terror for trying different paths, or aversion to taking risks due to previous mistakes. Have you had this idea or opportunity before but failed somewhere along the path?

It might be a suggestion of immature behaviour; it could imply naivety and irresponsibility, and warns against being too idealistic or failing to face up duties and responsibilities. In general terms, the reversed fool urges one to think about choices and give due consideration about effects caused by them. There’s the opportunity to understand and learn from past errors if you make calculated steps rather than blindly jumping into unfamiliar grounds.

The Fool in Love and Relationships

When it comes to matters of the heart, the fool showing up is seen as a dare to start. It indicates commencement of a love adventure, filled with possibilities, or a new exciting phase in something that’s ongoing.

The Fool is reminding you not to take every detail so seriously when it comes to love, enjoy the emotion, don’t treat it as a burden.

For single explorers, the fool’s involvement in a reading means now is the time to get out there and meet new individuals; love may turn up where we least expect so approach every situation with enthusiasm and freshness.

For couples, this card might suggest that it’s time to put some zing back into things. Suggest doing something spontaneous or silly together, and put worries aside so you can enjoy the lighter moments of life.

However, reversed,  It suggests a need to address anxieties about starting new relationships or making changes in an existing one.

This card warns against acting impulsively or without consideration, highlighting potential recklessness or a lack of commitment. It may also indicate reluctance to leave a comfort zone or embrace new experiences.

Reflect on whether you’re holding back due to fear or past baggage and consider the need for a more grounded and thoughtful approach in your romantic life.

You are the Fool

When the fool is drawn to represent you, it symbolizes your spirit of adventure and readiness to embrace the unknown.

This card reflects a carefree attitude and a belief in the goodness of life. Perhaps you find yourself on the brink of a new chapter, filled with excitement and opportunities for growth. Don’t see something on the horizon? Brace yourself!

It encourages a mindset free from fear or apprehension, suggesting that you are already poised to take bold steps toward your aspirations.

But,  the fool reversed should be remembered as a reminder against recklessness, and a caution against letting enthusiasm carry one away. It could mean that you’re exploring, learning to rely on instincts and being spontaneous, but that you should also be thinking about whether you are ready for what lies ahead.

All in all, the fool drawn for you, me, or whomever the querent is, tells us that such an individual is in a critical transition phase which calls on them to live life adventurously.

The Fool in Matters of Business

When it comes to one’s professional life, drawing the fool indicates fresh beginnings and exciting prospects. This could mean it’s a good time for starting out on a new career path or embarking on a side project.

This card embodies exploration, implying that someone might be just about to hit upon something big or have an opening that leads into rapid growth.

Now is when you need to seize chances that arise and get into uncharted territory.

Do the waters feel calm at work right now? The fool is urging you to think outside of your comfort zone and embrace creativity.

Reversed, this card suggests avoiding impulsive decisions and carefully evaluating all those exciting and enticing potential opportunities before diving in.

It could also highlight a lack of preparation or an unwillingness to step out of your comfort zone.

Reflect on whether you’re holding back due to past failures or fear of the unknown, and consider a more deliberate and strategic approach to your career or business plans.
